In late 1994–early 1995 F40 GT s/n 94362 was updated by Michelotto to F40 GTE specifications for the BPR GT Race series, becoming one of only seven F40s updated by Michelotto to F40 GTE specifications. The very popular BPR Championship revived GT racing in 1994–1995–1996, bringing multiple great manufacturers back to International GT racing. The carbon-fiber body was updated to F40 LM body specs with much wider front and rear bodywork and rocker sill panels. The chassis was reinforced with carbon fiber, stiffer anti-roll bars and extra cross bracing beyond even the F40 LM specifications. Power was put to the ground with bigger 11 1/4 x 18 front and 13 x 18 rear Enkei wheels backed up with massive Brembo brakes. Aerodynamics were much improved with a full front splitter, a much larger double segment rear wing and a huge ground-hugging lower rear air venturi. Power was increased to 620 HP at 7500 RPM with 39 mm restrictors. Weight was very light at 1100 Kilos. And for those who want to go really fast, 800 HP is possible with the restrictors removed. A centerpiece for any Supercar collection, an F40 GTE offers the ultimate chance to utterly devastate your neighbor’s rather mundane F40 LM at the next Ferrari club track event. Seven F40 GTEs were built. They are s/n 74045 for René Herzog (CH); s/n 82404 for Scuderia Ennea (I); s/n 84503 for Wide World of Cars (US); s/n 85015 also for Wide World of Cars; s/n 88779 for Scuderia Ennea (I); s/n 90001 for Scuderia Ennea (I); and last but not least s/n 94362 for Jolly Club and Vittorio Colombo (I).
F40 GTE was then raced in the BPR series in 1995, but without the support of a well-organized race team such as Jolly Club it was a mid-field car, running in only four BPR Series races. F40 GTE s/n 94362 is fully sorted and comes with all the spares needed for historic racing today; including a spare set of 18″ Enkei wheels, a set of Koni racing shocks and springs, a set of transport tie down wheel nuts, a new set of wheel nuts and a set of used wheel nuts.
Fast forward to 2011: The Etana Insurance sponsored Ferrari F40 GTE landed in South Africa in early March 2011, from Italy. It made its South African debut at the Top Gear Festival, and was one of the star attractions. As one of the most iconic and desirable Sports cars of the 1980′s. Alec & his staff at Evolution 2 Motorsport had the privilege of looking after this amazing vehicle for Pablo Clark Racing at the Top Gear Festival.
This original specimen Ferrari F40 GTE competed in the 1996 Le Mans 24 Hour, and won the 1996 Vallelunga 6 hour.
The vehicle is housed by Autofficina Bonini Carlo s.r.l. in Italy, but due to other commitments, the staff couldn’t accompany the vehicle to South Africa. Based in Cadelbosco di Sopra, a small town near Reggio Emilia, for nearly 30 years the Bonini auto repair garage has been providing mechanical assistance specifically dedicated to the “Ferraris” of Maranello. By no coincidence, it has been officially authorized as a Ferrari Service for years and has the most modern electronic equipment for diagnosis and tuning. All this without forgetting the historical Ferraris on which the company actively performs all kinds of restoration and repairs. In 2008, the Bonini garage opened a special department dedicated specifically to garaging their customers’ cars.
